BRA FITTING PAGE

Manufacturers vary in their sizings widely and sadly not every 32AA will be the same as another 32AA. The difference between our 32AA Amourette by Triumph and our 32AA in our Nika bra is pretty big! I have tried to indicate were possible which bras come up big and which come up small.

Please use this page as a guide only.

Even the information I found concerning fitting was conflicting so I have gathered together some general stats which I hope will be useful.

Trial and error seems to be the best way unfortunately.

Do you have a good fitting bra already?

Well, that’s a good place to start.

According to research 70% of women wear the wrong size bra.

However I do find this statement a bit misleading given that there seems to be no industry standard regarding sizes. So please don’t get bogged down in what size you think you might be, I have a drawer with 32A’s, 34AA’s and a couple of 34AAA’s and one 32B, and they all fit.

How often should we fit?

Bra size can be affected by many factors including:

  • Weight change Excercise
  • Menstrual Cycle
  • Pregnancy and Nursing
  • Hormonal changes (the pill, menopause, HRT)

Bra Fitting:

Back Size Guide

You need 2 measurements for this, your back size represented by a number and your cup size represented by a letter.

It’s easier to measure your back in centimetres and then convert it. Still wearing your bra, measure underneath your breasts. Pull the tape measure as tight as your bra strap would be. It should feel really snug but not overly tight.

Cup Size Guide

Your cup size is trickier, measure yourself in inches around the fullest part of your breasts making sure the tape measure is straight across your back. If your back measurement is the same, ie you’re a 32″ back (after you’ve worked it out from cm’s from the chart above) and you’re measuring a 32″ around the fullest part you are an A cup. If you are up to 1″ less, you are an AA cup and even less you need an AAA cup.

So…

1. Your bra should be quite firm around the body and ideally fitted on the 3rd eye adjustment.

2. Shoulder straps loosened or tightened as necessary.

3. Breasts well enclosed within the cup.

4. Centre front should sit reasonably fald against your chest wall.

5. Snug fit at the back and underarm edges (not too tight and not gaping)

Don’t forget!!

A 34AA has the same cup size as a 32A. If you go down a back size, go up a cup size.

And conversely, a 34A has the same cup size as a 36AA, so if you go up a back size, go down a cup size.

Wired or non wired?

Which to choose?

Non wired bras are recommended for developing breasts, post surgery, maternity and nursing mums, heart patients, sports women and now it’s recommended police women wear non wired bras too. Often older women prefer them too. Wired bras tend to have larger cup surfaces due to the wire. As the wires do a lot of ‘work’ non wired bras need to be more precise to achieve the same support and fit.
